Summer 2019 Volunteer Training

Are you looking forward to changing the lives of the next generation with mentoring, safe schools and reading literacy? Kids on the Move for Success is looking for volunteers, mentors and academic buddies for our Discovery sTEAM (science, technology, engineering, arts, and math) mentoring program and Knowledge is Powerful in literacy program in the DeKalb County School District. You will be working with elementary, middle and high school aged school children who could have academic and/or behavior challenges. B.S. or B.A. in STEAM (science, technology, engineering, arts, and math) major or currently employed in technology or entrepreneurial related field would be preferred, but not required. You will need to pass a background check to work with students. Since 2013, we have welcomed and counted on volunteers from all over the world to help us make a difference in the next generation.

As a volunteer, you will have the opportunity to work with me. Many do not realize how I am very involved in every facet of the organization from after-school and lunch meetings, parent training, field trips, and community safety town halls,

The volunteer orientation meetings will be on July 9 and 29, 2019. We will also be partnering with DeKalb County School District to provide onsite orientation for background checks to speed up the process to become a volunteer at our July 29, 2019 session. Kids on the Move for Success Launches Discovery STEAM Mentoring Program

ATLANTA, Georgia — September 1, 2017 — Kids on the Move for Success (KOTMFS), a non-profit organization that provides underserved children with scholarships and educational opportunities, will host a Discovery sTEAM (science, technology, engineering, arts, and math) mentor kick-off celebration on Saturday, Sept. 9, 2017, at 1 to 3:30 p.m. ET at Microsoft Store at Lenox Square Mall.

“KOTMFS is excited to continue our commitment to young people through this mentorship program.” said Antoinette Tuff, the CNN Everyday Hero who saved the lives of 870 children in August 2013, author of the bestselling book PREPARED for a PURPOSE, motivational speaker and founder of the KOTMFS.

Since its founding in 2013, KOTMFS has been focused on providing scholarships to children and young adults. More than 20 scholarships have been given to deserving recipients from elementary school to graduate school. KOTMFS is entering a new phase with the launch of the Discovery sTEAM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts & Math) Mentoring Program. The mission of Discovery sTEAM Mentoring Program is to empower underserved youth from 3rd to 8th grade residing in at risk communities by fostering positive, onsite one-on-one mentoring relationships with students and professionals.

“Canby Lane Elementary is honored to be first school to participate in the Discovery sTEAM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts & Math) Mentoring Program.” said Dr. Keshier Smikle. “Discovery sTEAM Mentoring Program Mentoring will provide our students access to the skills, curriculum and role models that can help them succeed in our technology driven world,” he/she added.
